BLACK WALNUT
PRODUCT #OLW418-1
Black Walnut is prized by many woodworkers because of its beauty and workability. Black Walnut’s grain colors are a combination of rich dark brown and subtle tones of purple in the heartwood, with lighter creamy straw tones in the sapwood. The combination of the heartwood and lighter colored sapwood edge makes for a beautiful contrast.

BOX ELDER
PRODUCT # OLW317-1
Sapwood is a pale white, sometimes with a yellow/green hue similar to Yellow Poplar. The heartwood is a grayish/yellowish brown, frequently with red or pink streaks. The red stain is produced by the tree’s natural defenses when wounded—it is thought that this compound is meant to inhibit the growth of fungus that commonly colonizes the tree. Much of the reddish coloring becomes a more subdued pink or brown/gray upon drying.

AROMATIC CEDAR

PECAN WOOD
PRODUCT #AL1117
Pecan has a wide, cream-colored sapwood with light brown to pinkish hues in the heartwood. We evicted all the existing tenants when we kiln dried the wood so you can enjoy their spalting and worm holes without having unwelcome guests at the table. It’s one of the hardest woods indigenous to the States, so you can rest assured that the table will last as long as the memories made around it.

EUCALYPTUS
PRODUCT #AL318
The most common figure is bee-wing, but curly and burl are also found. Red Eucalyptus is a deep, brick red. The heartwood tends to darken with exposure to light, while the sapwood ranges from pale yellow to pink. Eucalyptus is a very dense wood. Its natural toughness makes it difficult to work with, but also ensures that the finished product will be solid and long-lasting.

PERSIMMON
PRODUCT #AL1016
American Persimmon is a native tree prized for both its fruit and lumber. The timber is difficult to dry, but when dried correctly, the wood can be used for all types of applications. Up until the end of the 20th century, one of the most common uses was in golf clubs. The wood has a wide, light-colored sapwood with a small, black-colored heartwood. It’s often called White Ebony because it is in fact part of the Ebony family.

POPLAR
PRODUCT #WV418-2
Poplar heartwood is usually creamy-white to gray in color, sometimes pale brown or pinkish-brown. Grain is straight and can be woolly. Texture is fine and even. Poplar is most commonly used in architectural millwork because it is gentle on cutting tools, yet hard enough to retain details. It finishes very well, taking an even and smooth coat of paint, primer, varnish, or epoxy.

BIRDSEYE MAPLE
PRODUCT #X
Birdseye Maple is not technically a distinct species of Maple, but rather, it’s a figure that’s occasionally found in Sugar Maple trees. It’s named “birdseye” because the figure resembles small bird’s eyes. The figure is reportedly caused by unfavorable growing conditions for the tree. The Sugar Maple attempts to start numerous new buds to get more sunlight, but with poor growing conditions the new shoots are aborted, and afterward a number of tiny knots remain.
